Installation of LED DRL Boards for BMW 3 Series G20

Enhance your driving experience and stand out on the road with our DRL boards designed specifically for the BMW 3 Series G20 series.

Note: Always consult your vehicle's manual or seek professional assistance if you are unsure about any step. Our DRL LED boards are designed to fit only original headlights and are not suitable for aftermarket headlights.

Tools and Materials Required

  • T20 Torx screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Heat gun or hairdryer (required only if you are installing DRL boards separately; alternatively, we offer a pre-mounted option with boards already installed on the module)
  • Adhesive remover (optional, needed only for the non pre-mounted variant)

Optional Variant: We offer a convenient variant with pre-mounted DRL boards on the heatsink (DRL module), as used in this video. This simplifies installation and eliminates the need to disassemble the original boards from the DRL module.

Installation Steps

Before we dive into the installation process, it's important to ensure the ignition is off and the battery is disconnected, to prevent electrical issues.

Step 1: Remove the Front Bumper & Headlights
  1. First, remove the front bumper. Carefully detach all clips and screws, including those on the kidney grille, to remove the front bumper.
  2. The bumper is removed from the base of the grille.
  3. Along the entire length of the lower part of the bumper, remove the caps inserted from the bottom up.
  4. Turn the wheels to the side.
  5. In the wheel wells, unscrew four screws on each side that secure the fender liner.
  6. Move the edges of the fender liner to the side and unscrew two screws on each side that secure the sides to the wings (spun up).
  7. For the right fender liner, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the temperature sensor.
  8. Release the clips in the wings (pull the corners to the bottom).
  9. Release the latches in the grille (pull the bumper towards you).
  10. Next, remove the three mounting screws of the headlight (two on top and one approximately in the middle under the headlight).
Step 1: Remove the Headlights
Step 2: Access the DRL Modules
  1. On the top and back of each headlight, locate and remove the screws of the two DRL modules to detach them.
  2. In the video, DRL modules with pre-installed boards were used. If you purchased the DRL boards separately, you need to detach the original boards from the module, preferably using a heat gun to loosen the adhesive, and replace them with either single-color or the RGB multi-color boards.
Step 2: Access the Factory DRL Modules
Step 3: Install New DRL Boards or Modules
  1. After replacing the boards or modules (depending on your purchase), reattach everything to the headlight and secure the headlight back in place.
Step 3: Install New DRL Boards or Modules
Step 4: Reassemble the Front Bumper
  1. If you have installed single-color boards, the installation is now complete. Reassemble the front bumper and all removed parts. For the RGB variant, please follow the next steps
Step 4: Reassemble the Front Bumper
Step 5: Wiring for RGB Variant
  1. For the RGB variant, proceed with the wiring. Secure the Bluetooth controller in a suitable location in the engine compartment and connect it to the boards.
  2. Attach the black wire (grounding wire) to a grounding point on the chassis, and connect the red wire (positive wire) either to the battery or using a clamp piece to the headlight wiring harness.
Step 5: Wiring for RGB Variant
Step 6: Set Up the App
  1. Download the "Colorful Lights" app (available for iOS and Android), open it, and connect to the Bluetooth module.
Step 6: Set Up the App
